According to Tutto Mercato Web, Matteo Guendouzi is still a player of interest to Newcastle United. The Premier League sides could consider bringing the 26-year-old former Arsenal midfielder back to England if they end up losing key star Sandro Tonali amid growing interest in the Italian.
Newcastle United are set for a big yet tricky summer transfer window ahead. The Magpies are currently vying to finish in the top five, and they are well positioned to do so as Champions League football for next season remains their primary target in the games remaining this season.
Should they make the top five, Newcastle United will have more power in their effort to keep hold of some of their key players. Sandro Tonali is part of that list of players that Eddie Howe does not want to sell at any cost, although things could still change despite Champions League action at St James Park.
Tonali has big interest from top teams ahead of the summer, as the midfielder could even leave should a sizeable offer arrive from one of his suitors. Juventus are also linked with a move for the midfielder, as a return to Serie A could be a tempting prospect for the Italian international.
While Newcastle United wants to keep hold of him, they are looking at a few options as replacements for the Italian. One of them is 26-year-old former Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, with Howe still holding an admiration for the France international.
Newcastle United are unlikely to priositise a move for a new midfielder if they can keep the current group intact. In the event of losing Tonali, a replacement would be seen as an important piece of business, with Guendouzi considered for that role. The Lazio star was of interest to the Magpies last summer when the Magpies were faced with Tonali’s uncertain future, as they could push for a move once again.
Guendouzi might view a move back to England as a big career opportunity as he has been good for Lazio during his time there. There’s unfinished business back in the Premier League given how his departure from Arsenal panned out, as a move to Newcastle United will be seen as a good idea, although any deal will depend on Lazio’s asking price for the 26-year-old.
