According to José Miguel Domínguez via Fútbol Centroamérica, Newcastle United and Aston Villa are both interested in acquiring the services of Michael Amir Murillo. Both clubs want to add more quality to their backline and consider the Panama international an ideal fit for their system.
Murillo made a name for himself while playing for Belgian outfit RSC Anderlecht. His consistent performances earned him a move to Marseille in the summer of 2023. The French outfit forked out just €2.5 million to add him to their squad.
The 29-year-old right-back has only gone from strength to strength since making the move to Ligue 1. While he did struggle with injuries during his debut campaign, Murillo has been a consistent performer for them when available.
He prefers playing as a right-back but is equally effective on the opposite flank as well as in the heart of the defence. His consistent performances along with his versatility have put him on the wishlist of Premier League clubs.
Aston Villa and Newcastle are both interested in signing the Panama star and are prepared to battle it out for him. Both clubs are currently pushing for a Champions League spot. While they are fully focused on the task at hand, people at the club have already started planning about potential transfer.
While the Magpies have Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth at right-back, and Villa have Matty Cash and Andres Garcia, both clubs are keen on signing Murillo to increase competition for a starting spot. More importantly, his ability to cover multiple positions would add much-needed depth to their backlines.
He could prove to be a great signing for both teams, but securing his signature won’t be straightforward. His contract at Marseille runs until the summer of 2028 and they will demand a significant fee to let him leave in the summer. His value has already increased to €9 million and the final fee of any potential transfer will certainly exceed that figure.
