According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United are keen on signing Marc Guehi in the summer transfer window. Crystal Palace rejected a bid worth £70 million for the 24-year-old mainstay in the winter transfer window but will demand around £40 million to part ways with him this summer.
Marc Guehi has blossomed into one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Crystal Palace from Chelsea in July 2021. The Englishman hit the ground running at Selhurst Park and has exponentially grown in stature, becoming the club captain this season.
The 24-year-old has turned out over 150 times thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with eight goals and four assists. Meanwhile, Guehi’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League bigwigs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United.
Newcastle United attempted to sign the English international throughout last summer’s transfer window before the deal failed to see the light of day. The continued interest is understandable, considering Jamaal Lascelles, Dan Burn, and Fabian Schar are on the wrong side of 30. So, Guehi is a viable target for Newcastle United.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s interest in Marc Guehi makes sense. Even though the Blues have been active in the market for centre-backs in the last few years, their eagerness to part ways with Axel Disasi and Benoit Badiashile has forced them to set their sights on the Crystal Palace captain. Meanwhile, Chelsea should have no qualms about meeting the Eagles’ price of £40 million to part ways with the Englishman.
As for Liverpool, Virgil van Dijk is approaching the twilight of his career, forcing the Merseyside club to scour the market for a long-term successor. In addition, Joe Gomez has struggled with persistent fitness issues. So, Liverpool can do with a centre-back this summer, making Guehi a viable target.
Like Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United should have the funds to afford a deal worth around £40 million for Guehi. Interestingly, Crystal Palace rejected a bid of £70 million in the winter transfer window and will demand a significantly lower sum this summer.
