Manchester United offer five-year contract to Matheus Cunha

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United have submitted a five-year contract offer to Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Matheus Cunha. They are in talks with the player’s representatives and have offered him a five-year contract as they look to get a deal over the line.

Cunha hasn’t looked back since joining Wolves from Atletico Madrid. While it was an initial loan move, the transfer became permanent in the summer of 2023. He has gone from strength to strength and has established himself as one of the best attackers in the Premier League.

In his first full season with the club, he contributed towards 22 goals with the majority of his appearances coming as a striker. In his second season, the majority of his appearances have come as a number ten and he has contributed towards 23 goals.

While he prefers playing as a striker, Cunha is comfortable enough to feature anywhere in attack. His consistent performances and versatility have put him on the radar of Manchester United, who want to bolster their attack ahead of next season.

Ruben Amorim wants to bring in a new forward who can guarantee goals and he considers Cunha to be an ideal fit for his system. The 25-year-old Brazilian can easily slot into the 3-4-3 and 3-4-2-1 formations that the Portuguese manager prefers to use.

While there are other top clubs who are interested in the Wolves star, United have been working hard on a potential deal for some time. They are considered front-runners for his signature at this stage.

United are close to securing Cunha’s services

The Red Devils have been in talks with the player’s entourage for some time and negotiations at believed to be at an advanced stage. They have offered him a five-year contract running until the summer of 2030.

While initial talks centred around a four-year deal with an option for another 12 months, they are now proposing a straightforward five-year agreement. The majority of the things have already been sorted, only small details regarding the salary structure are yet to be agreed upon. A new meeting has been planned as United look to finalise everything.

While Amorim’s team are ready to pay his £62.5 million release clause, they want to make part payments spread over the next three to four years as it will help them in terms of PSR (Profitability and Sustainability Rules). The arrival of Cunha could result in the potential departure of Rasmus Hojlund, who hasn’t been able to live up to the expectations.
