According to a report from Sky Sports, Aston Villa have held internal talks about signing Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian is set to part ways with Pep Guardiola’s team at the end of the season and with him available for free, Unai Emery’s team are seriously considering making a move.
While things didn’t work out for De Bruyne at Chelsea, he revived his career during an 18-month-long spell at VfL Wolfsburg. His impressive performances at the German club resulted in a £54.5 million move to City in the summer of 2015.
Manuel Pellegrini was the manager who brought the Belgian international to Manchester City, but it was under Pep Guardiola’s tutelage that De Bruyne truly evolved into one of the finest attacking midfielders in world football.
The 33-year-old enjoyed a lot of success during his decade-long spell at the club. He won the Premier League title six times and even got his hands on the Champions League. While he has done wonders for them, recent seasons haven’t really gone according to plan for him.
De Bruyne has struggled to stay fit and has missed quite a few games because of injury. As a result, the club have decided against handing him a new deal. He is all set to leave the club at the end of the ongoing campaign when his current contract runs out.
The Belgian international officially announced his departure earlier this month, prompting a flurry of interest as clubs prepare to table offers for the 33-year-old playmaker. While there is interest in his services from the Major League Soccer as well as the Serie A, De Bruyne’s decision will have a lot to do with his family.
The former Chelsea star doesn’t want to move his family, so he’s thinking carefully about choosing a club that suits both his football career and his personal life. It is certainly a boost for the English clubs that want to try and sign the City legend.
Aston Villa have emerged as a potential destination for the Belgian attacking midfielder. Unai Emery’s team have taken giant strides in recent years and to have someone of De Bruyne’s experience could certainly help them take the next step.
They are holding internal talks about a potential move for the City skipper. While he will be available for free, the 33-year-old is on massive wages at the Manchester-based club and Villa might not be able to offer him a similar paying contract. As a result, they certainly have a lot to consider before going ahead with their interest.
