According to a report by Sky Deutschland, Alejandro Grimaldo is the subject of interest from FC Barcelona. The newly-crowned Copa del Rey champions are scouring the market for a new left-back heading into the summer transfer window and have set their sights on the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga champions want around €30-40 million to part ways with the Spanish international.
Alejandro Grimaldo has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world since joining Bayer Leverkusen in a Bosman move after ending his productive stint with SL Benfica in July 2023. A native of Valencia, the Spaniard spent his formative years in his homeland, starting his youth career at Valencia CF before graduating from FC Barcelona’s fabled La Masia setup.
However, the 29-year-old could not establish a foothold in the first-team squad at FC Barcelona and rose in prominence at SL Benfica. However, Grimaldo’s stock has skyrocketed during his spell with Bayer Leverkusen; he helped Die Werkself win the Bundesliga title last season and has remained highly productive this season.
The Spanish international has contributed to 16 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net four times and providing 12 assists. Meanwhile, Grimaldo’s exploits for Bayer Leverkusen have not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.
Barcelona’s interest in Alejandro Grimaldo is understandable. The Catalan giants are keen on signing a left-back in the summer transfer window, even though Alejandro Balde has been excellent since breaking into the first-team squad at the club. Hansi Flick wants two top-class options for every position, thus compelling Barcelona to seek a new left-back.
So, several candidates have emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Grimaldo also a viable target.
