Chelsea ready to cash in on Wesley Fofana this summer

Chelsea are ready to part ways with injury-prone star Wesley Fofana amid emerging interest from Marseille from Ligue 1.

According to Santi Aouna, Chelsea are ready with their decision on injury-prone star Wesley Fofana as they are willing to cash in on the defender. His terrible injury record has trumped his talent with the Blues likely to take a massive loss on their big investment in the French centre-back.

Chelsea paid top dollar for the signing of Wesley Fofana back in the summer of 2022. He started life at Stamford Bridge brightly, but a knee injury hampered his progress, thus allowing the French centre-back to make only 15 appearances that season.

He then went on to miss the 2023-24 season altogether, and while he returned to fitness for this campaign, once again he has played only 14 games. This time around it’s a hamstring problem that has troubled his progress, as the defender has undergone surgery to correct the problem.

Whether this issue is resolved remains to be seen, but Chelsea are willing to part ways with Fofana alongside many other players in the team. The Frenchman will have a market, maybe not the quality he would have attracted had he maintained his fitness levels.

Marseille are reportedly interested, and Fofana was ready to explore a move last summer when they were keen back then. However, Santi Aouna insists they are still in the mix and monitoring his situation while stating the injury-prone star might be open to the idea once again.

Chelsea planning defensive changes in the summer

Chelsea are already thinking about refreshing their defensive ranks as they are interested in a few names. They want Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth and while the Blues view him as a replacement for Benoit Badiashile, the Spaniard could also succeed Fofana in that backline.

Chelsea are confident of landing Huijsen but they are faced with massive competition for the Spanish international. There will be other defensive names on their transfer shortlist, as the club are ready to move on from the injury-prone Fofana as well as a few other underperforming stars in their defensive setup ahead of the summer.
