According to Football Insider, Everton are keen to sign Facundo Medina as they face competition from the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United. RC Lens could be forced into a sale owing to the overall financial state in Ligue 1, with a £25-30 million price point mooted about.
Facundo Medina has made himself a known player with some important performances for RC Lens over the years. The Argentine had adapted rather swiftly since his move from his home country to France back in 2020, and now he could be playing in his last season with the club.
RC Lens are open to selling him as well as some other important stars owing to the financial state of most Ligue 1 sides. They are eager to use the massive interest developing in the 25-year-old, five-capped Argentine international to demand at least £25-30 million for the left-footed centre-back.
Several clubs are eager to sign the Argentine, with some heavy interest coming from Premier League sides. Aston Villa and Newcastle United are among those keen alongside Everton, as all those clubs are looking for a solid defensive cover for their main centre-back on the left-hand side. Unai Emery wants competition for Pau Torres, while Eddie Howe seeks a similar player to deputise for Sven Botman.
Everton’s requirement might turn out to be more pressing compared to Aston Villa and Newcastle United, as Jarrad Branthwaite’s doubtful future could throw them into the market for a replacement. Medina is seen as a viable target, although the price tag of £25-30 million could be a small issue for the Toffees alongside the competition for the Argentine defender.
The Branthwaite situation could have a telling effect on David Moyes as well as the club as they gear up for a fresh start in their new stadium next season. The Toffees ideally want Branthwaite to stay with the club and become a key part of their new era. The defender does have big suitors, which could have a bearing on his future, as Everton might not be opposed to a big bid.
As far as replacement options are concerned, Medina aside, David Hancko has been linked with a move, while the Toffees were reportedly interested in Milan Skrinar alongside other clubs. Given how the market is right now, Moyes might seek a defender with plenty of experience at one of the top leagues, as Medina does fit the bill.
