Manchester United optimistic of landing Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United are reportedly hopeful of beating Arsenal to 26-year-old Swedish international Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Viktor Gyokeres is the subject of interest from Arsenal. The Sporting CP striker is also a target for Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on signing a striker in the summer transfer window and are confident of beating the Gunners to the Swedish international attacker’s signature.

The rapid rise of Viktor Gyokeres

Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as one of the best strikers in the world since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City in July 2023. The Swede has taken his productivity up several notches in the last two years, coming leaps and bounds during his spell with the Portuguese club.

The 26-year-old has been exceptional again this season, contributing to 64 goals in 48 outings across all competitions by finding the back of the net 52 times and providing 12 assists. In addition, Gyokeres has become a productivity monster in international football, making his mark in his outings for Sweden.

Meanwhile, the Swedish striker’s exploits for his club and country have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Sporting CP centre-forward, with Arsenal and Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Arsenal’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres is understandable. The Gunners are combing the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window, with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus struggling to be productive enough in front of the goal. So, the Sporting CP centre-forward has emerged as a viable target for Arsenal.

As for Manchester United, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been wasteful in front of the goal, compelling Ruben Amorim to seek a prolific striker heading into the summer transfer window. So, Gyokeres is an option worth considering, with Manchester United confident of beating the competition to the Swede’s signature.

With Manchester United increasingly optimistic of winning the race to sign Gyokeres, it will be interesting to see if Arsenal can turn the player’s head. However, it will not be surprising to see the 26-year-old Swedish international picking Manchester United due to his familiarity with Ruben Amorim.
