According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal will face competition from Barcelona in their efforts to land Christopher Nkunku in the summer. The Chelsea forward is ready to quit the London club for a new challenge in the summer, and he could cost £40 million in the close season.
Christopher Nkunku has not been a good investment for Chelsea unless they can get close to the £52 million spent on signing the Frenchman. After an injury-ravaged first season, the attacker has struggled for relevance particularly in the Premier League, although Enzo Maresca has used him more in cup competitions.
Nkunku has contributed to 19 goals across all competitions this season, and he is one of the highest goal-getters for Chelsea this season. However, the Frenchman is frustrated with the lack of game time in the top flight has the frustrations of not nailing down a regular place will effect his thinking in the future.
The versatile French attacker could leave Chelsea in the close season as he was already open to the idea back in January. There were some clubs keen to sign Christopher Nkunku, but the demands set out by the Blues may have curtailed any chances of a departure.
Heading into the summer, Nkunku has a few suitors like Barcelona in the mix. Chelsea are open to selling him for around £40 million, and it remains to be seen whether interested clubs are willing to pay as much for the rarely-used Chelsea forward.
Arsenal have reignited their interest in Nkunku, which may come to surprise many of their fans, as the Frenchman is not seen as a good enough player by them. However, Mikel Arteta may view the rarely-used Chelsea forward as a good tactical fit for his squad which could be the main reason for their interest.
However, Arsenal are not expected to make a move for Christsopher Nkunku on priority, as they have other important targets on their list. The Gunners are seeking a new striker with Viktor Gyokeres seen as their current No.1 choice, while they are also chasing a new left winger. As for Nkunku, he could be a player who can fit into multiple positions, something Arteta likes from his attackers.
