Kim Min-jae could part ways with Bayern Munich this summer and according to a report from Foot Mercato, the South Korean defender is keen on securing a move to the Premier League. Chelsea and Newcastle United have emerged as potential destinations and have already held talks with his agents.
Kim made quite a name for himself at Napoli. He played a massive part in their title-winning campaign back in the 2022/23 season. His performances put him on the radar of Bayern Munich, who forked out €50 million to add him to their squad in the summer of 2023.
The 28-year-old has only gone from strength to strength over the last two seasons. He has been ever-present in their backline and has been a consistent performer for them. Kim has featured in 42 matches this season, and the towering 1.90-metre defender has even chipped in with three goals.
While his contract at the German club runs until 2028 and he is considered a key figure in the team, the South Korean is ready to part ways with the club. He has opened the door to a potential move away this summer and there seems to be a lot of interest in his services.
Kim prefers moving to the English top flight, where Chelsea and Newcastle United are both keen on signing him. The Blues want to add more experience as well as depth to their backline. The Bayern centre-back could end up being one of the leaders of Enzo Maresca’s defence.
Meanwhile, the Magpies also want to further strengthen their backline. Eddie Howe wants more quality at the back and Kim can certainly help take their defence to the next level. Both clubs have already held talks with the player’s agents as they plot a summer raid on Bayern.
While Premier League clubs are chasing his signature and he is also keen on making the move, it will be interesting to see if the German giants are willing to let him go. If they do, the financial side of things will be one to watch out for.
