Arsenal best-placed to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal front-runners for the signature of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres amidst interest from rivals Chelsea.

According to A Bola via SportWitness, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are leading the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres. While rivals Chelsea are also keen on his signature, multiple factors favour the North London club.

Gyokeres has taken his game to the next level since joining Sporting CP from Coventry City. He had an exceptional debut campaign and has backed it up with an even better season this time around.

The Swedish international has been involved in a total of 46 games this season. He has found the back of the net on 47 occasions and has even bagged 11 assists.

While multiple top clubs wanted to sign him last summer, he decided to continue at the Portuguese club for another season. His contract at Sporting runs until 2028 but his departure in the upcoming window is almost certain.

The 26-year-old has a massive €100 million release clause but reportedly has a gentleman’s agreement with the club. They will not only allow him to leave but will accept a lower fee than his clause.

Chelsea are one of the clubs that have been linked with the Sporting star. The Blues want to bring in a top striker to help them take the next step. Despite consistent performances from Nicolas Jackson, Enzo Maresca feels the need for another world-class number nine and Gyokeres is one of the names on their wishlist.

Arsenal closing in on the signing of Gyokeres

While the Blues are keen, they are behind Arsenal in the race to his signature. The North London club have identified the 26-year-old as a priority target for the summer. Mikel Arteta wants to have a reliable goal scorer up top as he is not satisfied with the output of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.

Gyokeres has already proved himself at the highest level and he can certainly help them push for the league title. Arsenal are believed to be best positioned to sign him because of multiple factors.

The Swedish striker is ready to change clubs and take the next step in his career. Arsenal are one of the clubs that he prefers joining and the Gunners can sign him for just €70 million, thanks to the pact between the player and the Portuguese club. Both factors significantly bolster their chances of signing the former Coventry striker.
