Everton enter Albert Gudmundsson chase

Everton will compete with Serie A champions Inter Milan to sign 27-year-old Icelandic international Albert Gudmundsson in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Albert Gudmundsson is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window. So, the on-loan Fiorentina forward has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit, and the Icelandic international will likely cost around £20 million.

Albert Gudmundsson and his career so far

Albert Gudmundsson has been one of the most underrated attackers in Serie A in the last few years. A native of Reykjavik, he spent most of his formative in his home city but graduated from the youth division at SC Heerenveen. However, he found a stable footing after joining AZ Alkmaar and went from strength to strength during his spell with Genoa.

The 27-year-old moved across Serie A by sealing a season-long loan move to Fiorentina last summer. However, Gudmundsson has struggled with fitness issues this term, although he has been solid in his limited outings for the Serie A club. The player has contributed to ten goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, finding the back of the net eight times and providing two assists.

Meanwhile, Gudmundsson’s exploits in Serie A have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, have shown interest in the Icelandic international for a long time, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Everton’s interest in Albert Gudmundsson is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Jack Harrison and Abdoulaye Doucoure. So, several candidates, including Richarlison, have emerged on Everton’s radar.

However, Gudmundsson is also a viable target, and the on-loan Fiorentina forward can be a long-term replacement for Doucoure. Meanwhile, Fiorentina can seal a permanent move for the player by triggering a purchase option worth £14 million. However, with Everton and Inter Milan also interested, La Viola must finalise the decision soon.

The 27-year-old Icelandic international will not cost a bomb in the summer transfer window, and he should be available for around £20 million. It will be interesting to see where Gudmundsson plies his trade in the 2024/25 season.
