Manchester United will aim to start building momentum towards winning the UEFA Europa League by embarking on a winning run when they welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Ruben Amorim has no new issues to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Amad Diallo is the most notable absentee as he continues recovering from an ankle injury. The Ivory Coast international accompanies Matthijs de Ligt (foot), Lisandro Martinez (knee), Ayden Heaven (ankle), Toby Collyer (match fitness), and Joshua Zirkzee (hamstring) on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, which happened immediately after the UEFA Europa League clash with Lyon, Amorim suggested he would rotate his troops while assessing the fitness of several players.
The Manchester United manager said, “I have to see it, players like [Diogo] Dalot, they are always ready but today he was really tired. The guys that are at risk to have an injury, we will try to save them so we will see tomorrow [Friday]. I think it is not the best moment or the best season to put some kids to play, because, again, they need a strong base to really show what they can do. “
“But in this moment we need to do it and sometimes you have surprises. Ayden just played and I can be honest, we did it because we had injuries in that moment. But today, I think Ayden is my player so when he is ready and facing the competition in the team, he is ready to play.”
The Manchester United manager said, “So you don’t know. Amass did really well. Chido, when he played, he played quite well. It is a difficult moment, it is not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it then we will do it.”
Amass will return to the starting lineup on Sunday, completing the backline alongside Diogo Dalot, Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelof, and Luke Shaw. Andre Onana will take his spot between the sticks, with the home side lining up in a 3-4-2-1 formation in front of him against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.
As for the midfield unit, Christian Eriksen should line up alongside Manuel Ugarte in the central areas. The tireless Bruno Fernandes will retain his spot in the offensive unit, joining Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund in the final third. So, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and Chido Obi will be backup options on the bench.
Predicted Manchester United XI: Onana; Yoro, Lindelof, Shaw; Dalot, Eriksen, Ugarte, Amass; Mount, Bruno Fernandes; Hojlund
