David Moyes prioritising Everton move for Evan Ferguson

David Moyes reportedly views 20-year-old Republic of Ireland international Evan Ferguson as the priority striker target for Everton for the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Evan Ferguson is the subject of interest from Everton. David Moyes is driving the Merseyside club’s move for the struggling striker, who has failed to make his mark since joining West Ham United on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion in the winter transfer window. However, the Scottish tactician views the 20-year-old as the priority summer target for the Toffees.

Evan Ferguson and his recent struggles

Evan Ferguson has endured a topsy-turvy ride since breaking into the first-team squad at Brighton & Hove Albion a few years ago. A native of Bettystown, the Irishman has been with the Premier League club since January 2021 and made his senior bow shortly after.

While the 20-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance, he fell in the pecking order in the first half of the 2024/25 season before Brighton loaned him across the Premier League to West Ham United in the winter transfer window. However, the youngster has struggled during his spell with the East London outfit, barely managing any game time.

The Republic of Ireland international has managed only 137 minutes of game time across six appearances in all competitions thus far. So, it is hardly surprising that Ferguson faces an uncertain future heading into the summer transfer window. However, he has no shortage of suitors pursuing his signature, with Everton vying for his services.

Another move across the Premier League on the cards?

Everton’s interest in Evan Ferguson is understandable. The Toffees are combing the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s long-term future. The English international has entered the final few months of his contract and will likely leave Everton as a free agent.

So, several candidates, including Liam Delap, have emerged on Everton’s radar, with Ferguson also a viable target. The 20-year-old Irishman is a top target for David Moyes, who wants the Merseyside outfit to prioritise a summer move for him.

With Ferguson struggling to make his mark at West Ham United, Everton should have a clear run at the Republic of Ireland international. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the youngster.
