Manchester United front-runners to sign Ederson

Manchester United and Manchester City are keen on signing Ederson from Atalanta, with the former in the pole position to secure his services in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Atalanta, Ederson is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Atalanta midfielder is also a target for Manchester City. However, the Red Devils are the front-runners to land the Brazilian midfield powerhouse, having advanced contacts with his entourage. Meanwhile, the Serie A giants want around €60 million to part ways with him.

The rise and rise of Ederson

Ederson has come leaps and bounds since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in July 2022. The South American midfielder has established himself as one of the best midfielders in Serie A in the last three years, with his exploits helping him break into his national squad.

The 25-year-old played his part as Atalanta won the UEFA Europa League title last season and contributed to the brief title challenge this term. The player has turned out nearly 150 times thus far for La Dea while chipping in with 12 goals and four assists.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian midfielder’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, are keen on signing the Atalanta mainstay, with Manchester City and Manchester United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester City’s interest in Ederson makes sense. The Premier League champions are combing the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding the long-term futures of Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan. So, the Atalanta midfielder is a viable target for Manchester City.

As for Manchester United, the Red Devils have advanced talks with the South American midfielder’s entourage over a possible move in the summer transfer window. They are the front-runners to land the Atalanta mainstay and are “moving with greater determination”. So, a summer deal with Manchester United might be on the cards, with Atalanta demanding €60 million to sell him.

With Casemiro and Christian Eriksen facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Manchester United must sign a replacement. It will be interesting to see if the Red Devils are ready to cough up €60 million to beat Manchester City to the 25-year-old Brazilian international.
