David de Gea unlikely to rejoin Manchester United this summer

David De Gea could be an unrealistic target for Manchester United as a move back to Old Trafford may not materialise for the Spanish goalkeeper.

According to i Paper, Manchester United are unlikely to re-sign David De Gea as a replacement for under-fire goalkeeper Andre Onana. The Red Devils are expected to make a move for a new keeper in the close season as the Cameroonian stopper’s future has been thrown into significant doubt.

Manchester United are about to make some big transfer plans ahead of the summer transfer window. At the current moment, the big subject of discussion is the future of Andre Onana, following recent events with the Cameroonian keeper after two high-profile errors against Lyon to add to an unwanted catalogue this season.

Manchester United have lost patience with Onana to the extent that they are thinking about selling him in the summer. There might be interest from Saudi Arabia, and realistically the only source of achieving a decent enough transfer fee for the under-fire stopper.

The Red Devils have been linked with a lot of names ahead of the summer including Brighton & Hove Albion’s Bart Verbruggen, who will cost a handful should they make a move for him. There are other names on their list, as AC Milan’s Mike Maignan is seen as the ideal choice to replace Onana.

Meanwhile, there is a surprise name linked with a move, as reports stated Manchester United might be interested in David De Gea. The former Red Devils star is not seen as a realistic option at this stage at least as per the report, and the chances of the Spaniard returning to his old club are remote to none.

David de Gea unlikely to re-join Manchester United

De Gea endured a difficult period at the end of his tenure at Manchester United, as his exit was a result of contract confusion between the two parties. The Red Devils reportedly offered a renewal before taking it away, and the now resurgent Serie A-based icon spent a season without playing for a team.

The Spaniard has since joined Fiorentina and to good effect, as he has been instrumental in Viola’s push for a top-four finish. His current deal does expire at the end of the season although it does have an option for another season, which Fiorentina are likely to exercise, meaning there is no chance realistically for David de Gea to make a sensational return to Manchester United.
