According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United want to sign another striker even though they are close to striking a deal for Wolves’ Matheus Cunha. Ruben Amorim is keen on adding two top-quality forwards to his squad as he looks to reshape their attack after another disappointing season.
Amorim took over from Erik ten Hag mid-season. While a lot was expected from the Portuguese manager, things haven’t really gone according to plan as he has failed to implement his style of play at Old Trafford.
A lot of their struggle is down to the players that he has at his disposal. The club are prepared to back Amorim and will do everything they can to provide him with the players he needs to effectively implement his system.
Their priority will be to reinforce the attack that has struggling for a while now. Even though they did invest a significant fee to sign Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee in the recent past. The moves haven’t worked as they have struggled to score goals.
The Red Devils have heavily relied on their skipper Bruno Fernandes for goals. Amorim wants to address this issue on a priority basis. He wants forwards who can add a lot of goals and help out Fernandes in the final third.
Wolves’ Matheus Cunha is their priority target and they have been working on a potential deal for some time. The Manchester-based giants are very close to securing his services with the Wolverhampton-based club ready to accept deferred payments.
While they are all set to add the Brazilian international to their squad, United are still in the market for another striker. Even though Cunha is capable of playing as a striker, Amorim prefers to deploy him out wide or in the number ten role, positions where he has thrived during his time at Wolves.
With him set to play in different roles, the Portuguese manager wants to sign a reliable striker alongside. He wants someone who can guarantee goals. As a result, it will be interesting to see which forward the club go after. Viktor Gyokeres and Liam Delap are two forwards who have been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
