Manchester United told they do not need to pay Matheus Cunha clause in full

Manchester United have received a massive boost in their pursuit of Wolves attacking mainstay Matheus Cunha.

According to a report from TBR, Manchester United are stepping up their interest in the services of Matheus Cunha and have received a massive boost after talks with his representatives. The Red Devils have been assured that they can make part payments to sign the Brazilian striker.

While things didn’t work out for Cunha at Atletico Madrid, the move to Wolves has done wonders for him. He initially joined them on a short loan at the start of 2023 before the move became permanent that summer.

He has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons and has established himself as one of the best forwards in the Premier League. While Wolves haven’t been that great, Cunha has certainly had an impressive season.

He has been involved in a total of 31 matches and has contributed towards 20 goals (16 goals, 4 assists). His consistent performances, strong physical presence and an eye for goal have put him on the radar of quite a few top clubs.

Liverpool are one of the clubs that are keen on signing him. The Reds have already held talks with his representatives. However, there are concerns over his disciplinary record, with the player missing four matches due to suspensions for aggressive behaviour this season.

Despite that, the Merseyside club are set for further talks to sign the Wolves No.10. However, they could face a significant challenge from Manchester United, who have stepped up their pursuit.

United’s hopes of signing Cunha have improved

The Red Devils have had a very difficult season. While they are still in contention for the Europa League title, things haven’t worked out for them in the Premier League. They will look to make quite a few changes to their squad in the summer and signing a top forward will be one of their priorities.

Cunha is a top target for the Red Devils and they have been working on a potential transfer for some time. They have held talks with his agents, primarily to determine whether Wolves expect his release clause, over £60 million, to be paid in full or if they are open to accepting a structured deal.

United have been assured that they won’t have to pay the entire amount upfront. Even if Wolves do change their stance, the Manchester-based giants could still figure out a way but it will certainly become a lot more difficult.

While they have received a boost, Ruben Amorim will still have to convince the 25-year-old about their project as he wants to fight for important trophies going forward.
