According to Fichajes, Enzo Barrenechea’s top-notch performances at Valencia have attracted the interest of five La Liga sides ahead of the summer. The midfielder belongs to Aston Villa, as Unai Emery will evaluate his situation before addressing his future, as a move back to Spain could be on the cards.
Enzo Barrenechea may not be a known name around Premier League circles, but the 23-year-old arrived at Aston Villa in a double deal with Juventus also involving Samue Iling-Junior. The move cost the Birmingham side a combined €22 million in fees, with the Argentine alone costing around €8 million.
Aston Villa did not deem him to be ready for Premier League action, as they shipped him off to Valencia to play a season of regular football in Spain. In La Liga, he has been excellent so far, starting 22 of the 27 games he has featured for Los Che, playing mostly as their defensive midfielder.
Valencia are keen to extend Barrenechea’s loan for another season, as Aston Villa have a decision on the 23-year-old’s future. There are five La Liga sides keen on the midfielder including Real Betis, Villarreal, Real Mallorca and Atletico Madrid.
Atletico Madrid have been looking for a new midfielder with their shortlist including names like Enzo Fernandez. Barrenchea could be another option for Diego Simeone to consider, as the 23-year-old Aston Villa midfielder could be a much cheaper alternative to some other targets.
Taking into account the other names like Villarreal, Real Betis and Mallorca, any move for the 23-year-old Aston Villa midfielder will depend on where he has an important place. Moreover, the Premier League side could also look at the prospect of making a healthy profit on their investment in the Argentine depending on what sort of offers they receive for the midfielder.
However, Unai Emery is eager to evaluate the midfielder in pre-season before giving his opinion on his future at the club. Aston Villa are linked with names like Yves Bissouma which tends to suggest they are in the market for a defensive midfielder. Depending on how Emery views the talent of the 23-year-old, a decision on his future is expected in the summer, as he also has the chance to stay at Villa Park next season.
