According to Maurizio Russo, Chelsea are the front-runner in the race for Serhou Guirassy with some other high-profile teams chasing the Borussia Dortmund striker. The in-form centre-forward could once again find himself on the road to moving on to a bigger club, as a move to London might prove tempting.
Serhou Guirassy is one of the in-form strikers in Europe, and he has proved that Borussia Doerrtmund’s gamble on him has paid off in a big way. The Guinea frontman was a lethal force for Stuttgart, as BVB took advantage of a modest release clause in his contract to sign him as a replacement for Niclas Fullkrug in the summer.
Guirassy has been tremendous in front of goal for BVB having netted 15 goals in the Bundesliga and 13 in the Champions League. He also scored a massive hattrick in the win over Barcelona in the quarterfinals on Tuesday which has put him back on the European map ahead of the summer window.
Maurizio Russo insisted many clubs are keeping close tabs on the Guinea striker including Napoli as well as Juventus. However, the surprising name in front of the queue are Chelsea, with the Blues certainly looking for a new striker in the summer.
The idea of Guirassy might not be a firm choice on their agenda although such a move could be designed to find immediate solutions to be more lethal in the final third. Guirassy essentially guarantees plenty of goals, something Nicolas Jackson has not provided this season. The BVB striker has a €70 million release clause in his contract, although there will be hope that clubs can negotiate for less in the summer.
The €70 million-rated Bundesliga forward Guirassy is only the late name on Chelsea’s shortlist of strikers, as there are other targets they are keen on ahead of the summer. Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is a big target for the Blues, while they have also set sights on other names from England and abroad.
There are also links with Viktor Gyokeres, although, at the current moment, the Swede is closely linked with a move to Arsenal. Either way, Chelsea are expected to land a new No.9 to improve their attacking activities, with the idea of the €70 million-rated Bundesliga forward Guirassy might work out for them in the short to medium term.
