Jonathan David is all set to leave LOSC Lille this summer after his contract with the Ligue 1 club runs out. Barcelona and West Ham United are both keen on signing him, and according to a report from TEAMtalk, both clubs have already submitted contract offers to secure his services.
David has been a consistent performer for the Ligue 1 outfit since joining them back in 2020. The Canadian internaitonal is enjoying yet another impressive season as he has contributed towards 33 goals in his 43 outings across competitions. Although he remains one of the first names on the team sheet, his departure is inevitable, with the player informing the club he won’t be signing an extension.
With Jonathan David available for free in a few months, multiple top clubs are gearing up to make a move for his services. Barcelona and West Ham seem to have already put forward a contract offer to lure the 25-year-old Canadian international.
Both clubs have formally reached out to him to understand his position and offer him a contract to join them. These terms are not final but will help initiate further discussion. David prefers a club playing European football, and Barcelona is something of a dream destination for him.
The Catalan giants want to bring in someone who can replace Robert Lewandowski in the long run. With the Polish international turning 37 this year, they are looking to bet on the Lille striker. Even though he will be available for free, and they do not need to negotiate with the French club, a potential move still won’t be that straightforward.
Both parties will need to agree on wages, a signing-on fee, agent commissions, and other key details. If the Catalan giants do agree on terms with the Canadian striker, it could be a relatively straightforward decision for the forward. However, a potential transfer will depend on the Spanish club’s ability to register Jonathan David.
While Jonathan David favours a move to Barcelona, their financial constraints could open the door for West Ham United to swoop in, despite their lack of European football. The East London club want to freshen things up in the final third as Michail Antonio is still recovering from his accident and is well past his prime at 35.
Meanwhile, the Hammers are yet to make a decision on whether to pursue a permanent deal for Brighton & Hove Albion loanee Evan Ferguson. David has emerged as a great option for Graham Potter’s team, and they have already offered him a deal worth over £100,000 per week. Their offer will remain on the table as the youngster looks to make a decision.
Meanwhile, Chelsea could also enter the race for his signature. They have been linked with the Canadian international in the past and could return for him this summer as Enzo Maresca looks to bring in someone who can compete with Nicolas Jackson for a place in the starting XI.
