Leeds United eyeing Jose Mourinho as Daniel Farke replacement

Leeds United might turn to 62-year-old former Chelsea and Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to replace Daniel Farke this summer.

According to a report by Football Insider, Jose Mourinho is the subject of interest from Leeds United. The Whites are combing the market for a manager heading into the summer transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Daniel Farke’s long-term future. So, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager has emerged as a target for the West Yorkshire outfit.

Daniel Farke has done a reasonably solid job since taking over from Sam Allardyce in July 2023. The German tactician came close to guiding Leeds United to Premier League promotion last season before falling at the final hurdle in the playoffs against Southampton.

However, the Whites have not slipped in the ongoing campaign, clinching automatic promotion to the top flight after taking a five-point lead over Sheffield United with two games left. However, Farke faces an uncertain future at Leeds United despite ensuring the West Yorkshire club’s participation in the Premier League in the 2025/26 season.

Recent reports have claimed that Leeds United might mull over parting ways with Farke to bring in a Premier League-proven manager in the summer. That has compelled the EFL Championship outfit to identify Jose Mourinho as a shock target, with the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager emerging on the club’s wishlist.

Leeds United’s interest in Jose Mourinho may be audacious. However, the eagerness to land the former Tottenham manager is understandable, considering his extensive experience in the Premier League. The 62-year-old tactician has overseen multiple Premier League-winning campaigns and has enjoyed successful stints with Chelsea and Manchester United.

So, while pursuing Mourinho’s signature will be audacious, he should make an immediate impact at Elland Road. However, Leeds United might face stiff competition for the Portuguese tactician’s signature, with recent reports linking him with Tottenham Hotspur and the Portuguese national team.

Meanwhile, Leeds United’s managerial wishlist has other candidates, including Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and England’s former caretaker boss Lee Carsley. So, it will be interesting to see who the Whites turn to amid their links with Mourinho.
